What is BMI?
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. For Indians, the BMI standards are slightly different from Western standards.

Indian BMI Categories

Note: WHO standards for Asians are lower due to body composition differences.
BMI Calculation Example
For a person with:
- Weight: 70 kg
- Height: 1.75 m
BMI = 70 ÷ (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.9 (Normal)
Limitations of BMI
BMI doesn't account for:
- Muscle mass (athletes may show higher BMI)
- Age and gender differences
- Bone density
- Body fat distribution
